This page will be the portal to all the information/projects/contacts for the Sidewalk Astronomers involvement with International Year of Astronomy. As an organization, we are promoting and asking for participation in many of the IYA events. Obviously, with ISAN being held during the 100 Hours of Astronomy project, that is our main focus as a group but we are encouraging you to take the lead on participation in your area with all these other projects.

International Year of Astronomy Overview

The vision of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 is to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery. All humans should realize the impact of astronomy and basic sciences on our daily lives, and understand better how scientific knowledge can contribute to a more equitable and peaceful society.

If you see a project that appeals to you, please let us know what you are doing so that we can post it and get others involved. We've put a message board up for that purpose, please share your actions,  ideas, questions, and suggestions. Each project will have websites and discussion boards but since sidewalk astronomy will or can be a part of each project, please post comments here as well as on projects sites so others can get ideas.
